Sarah Young is a teacher in the mathematics department, a coach in the ice hockey program and director of the Snapdragons a cappella ensemble. Before coming to St. George’s in the fall of 2014, Young taught mathematics and music at Lincoln School in Providence, where she also designed a course in the intersection between those two disciplines. In subjects from algebra to statistics, she seeks to lead students to tangible connections between classroom skills and their applications in the greater world. Earlier in her career, Young played oboe and English horn in professional orchestras in Monterrey and Guanajuato, Mexico; locally, she is the founding principal oboist in the Narragansett Bay Symphony and also teaches private lessons through the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School. Young holds bachelor’s degrees in music and civil engineering from Stanford University and a master’s degree in music performance from DePaul University.
