Girls Varsity Basketball

Leiya was key to two road wins for Girls Varsity Basketball this weekend. She tallied 46 points in two games, including a clutch three-pointer to send Saturday's game into overtime. She has established herself as one of the best players in the league, and despite other teams swarming her constantly, is able to keep her composure and find a way to be effective. Her athleticism and tenacious defense are a force to be reckoned with.

Boys Varsity Hockey

In Saturday's 4-2 road win over Millbrook this senior forward was the catalyst, factoring in all four SG tallies with three goals and one assist. His third-period hat trick overwhelmed the Mustangs and paced the way for the Dragons en route to the statement-making victory. His leadership and offensive prowess have proven essential early in the season and have given balance and depth to the SG scoring attack.

Caroline Froio
Posted Monday, Nov 5, 2018 10:00:00 AM

Girls JV Soccer

This Dragon has made positive strides all season, playing in various positions although making her biggest mark as center midfielder. In our game last week against Milton, Caroline fought for each ball, winning 50/50s in the air and keeping her head up in order to create plays down field. She has been increasingly hard working, vocal, and supportive on the field and therefore an asset to the team.

Ryan Buckley
Posted Monday, Oct 22, 2018 10:00:00 AM

Boys Thirds Soccer

Ryan has brought consistent energy and 100% effort since the season started. He has overcome an injury, and his grit has helped his team in several close games

Will Perik
Posted Monday, Oct 22, 2018 10:00:00 AM

Varsity Football

In Saturday’s game against St. Mark’s, this Dragon proved to be a real warrior. Will played a full 48 minutes in the trenches, and although he doesn’t have a showy stat sheet, he blocked well on offense and opened paths for teammates on defense. In addition, he played on all special teams. Consistently outweighed by 50-80 lbs, he has battled all season and has improved each week.

Spencer Dellenbaugh
Posted Monday, Oct 22, 2018 10:00:00 AM

Boys Cross Country

Saturday’s race and ISL victory over St. Sebastian’s was the last home meet for this Dragon. During his tenure on the team, Spencer has been the epitome of what the team stands for: hard work, camaraderie, and mental and physical toughness. He has battled our home course for four years, a track that proudly boasts the single toughest mile on any course in the ISL. He saved his best for last, running his best time ever and improving his Hilltop personal record by 33 seconds.

Camryn Flessel
Posted Monday, Oct 15, 2018 10:30:00 AM

Girls Cross Country

This Dragon has been a great addition to the girls cross country team. In the last few meters of the team’s race against Groton last week, Camryn kept pushing to the end and passed another runner on the final stretch. As the only third former on the team, she has quickly solidified her spot on the varsity ranks. She puts forth her best effort on and off the course and this has made her an inspiration to her teammates.

Alafair Cutler
Posted Monday, Oct 8, 2018 10:00:00 AM

Girls JV Soccer

On and off the field, this Dragon has been an incredible support to her teammates and a player her coaches can rely on. Before the game last week against Nobles, Alafair and her fellow captains got the team together for a pregame pep-talk and it proved to be effective since the team won 4-1 and this player scored all four goals. Her positive energy, team first focus and work ethic have been quiet valuable all season.

Girls Soccer Program

Thanks to members of the girls varsity and JV programs who played in the Maddie Potts Invitational Tournament at Middletown on Sunday. Maddie was a senior at Chariho High School who tragically passed away on the field during a game against Middletown last September. Middletown Senior captain Kate Homer organized the fundraiser as her senior capstone project and SG competed against Portsmouth and Middletown in the round robin. Tiverton and Rogers also participated. It was a great day of soccer and the Potts family was on hand to see the joy brought together to celebrate Maddie’s legacy.

Thanks to: Kate Rogers, Alafair Cutler, Lilly Connell, Rayne Kayzee, Grace Tatirosian, Alex O’Loughlin, Maizy Nunes, Maya Bardorf, Brady Pattee, Pippa Shaw, Olivia Mastrangelo, Chiron Rose, Caroline Rios, Sion Park, Maya Florendo, Callie Holland and Peyton Mulhern. Coaches: Kate Farrell, Neile Golding and Sarah Mongan. Trainer: Jeff Nadeau offered volunteer coverage for the tournament on behalf of the RIATA.

Field Hockey

Bailey has brought consistent energy and 100% effort since practices began. She has already made noticeable improvements to her skills and game sense on the field, and has embraced an important midfield position. In last week’s game against East Greenwich, she held the right side of the field together and served as an important connector between the forwards and the defense.

Beste Engin

Beste has gone from a virtual novice to softball in her freshman year, to our starting third baseman as a senior. Her quick reflexes have made her a formidable defensive player on “the hot corner” and is also a solid hitter. Beste brings a positive attitude to practice each day which is much appreciated by players and coaches alike.

Girls JV Lacrosse

This past weekend, Lizzie's efforts in the goal propelled the JV girls lacrosse team to an exciting win over Brooks, 9-7. From the first minute of the game, Lizzie came to play, setting the tone early, with some key stops on point-blank shots. Throughout the game, she maintained an even-keel, playing well from start to finish. Her inspirational play throughout the contest provided the foundation for the team's excellent play and positive outcome.

Michael Martin

Michael has improved his personal record in the javelin throw by over 25 feet. On Saturday, he qualified for the New England Championships with a throw of 125’ 8” that also earned him second place in the event. He also stepped in to the 4x400m relay when his team needed him during the last two meets. Michael is willing to take on any challenge. His dedication to the team and positive attitude has been much appreciated.

Lili Connell
Posted Monday, Apr 30, 2018 10:00:00 AM

Girls JV Tennis

Lily has come back to tennis a stronger and more skilled player which has earned her a #2 singles position on the team this season. In a very tough match against St. Mark’s on Saturday, Lily and the rest of her teammates struggled through their first sets. Lily hit the court for her second set determined to win. She worked the ball, rushed the ball aggressively and came off the court having won 6-0. Well done, Lily!

Jennifer Driscoll
Posted Monday, Feb 26, 2018 10:30:46 AM

Girls Varsity Basketball

Jen has led the team all season at the point position. With her unceasing hustle and her spot on passing, Jen works to generate offense for the team, while also being scrappy on D. When down after halftime against Pomfret this week, she scored three consecutive three-pointers to take back the lead. Jen’s consistency and hustle have been huge factors in the team’s success.

Hayden Bertsch
Posted Monday, Feb 5, 2018 10:30:00 AM

Boys Varsity Squash

With the team match tied 3-3, Haydens's match was the last to go on court, with both teams and their collected parents and fans all watching.  He came out on fire against a strong opponent and lost two very close games, putting him behind 0-2.  However, a fierce competitiveness drove him to dig deeper and, in a dramatic back-and-forth battle, he won the next three games and sent the team into the semi-finals with the 4-3 win.

Harriet Jones

Harriet did a great job of being both a captain and a contributor to an exciting team win on Wednesday. Her ability to adapt to an opponent’s strength and dig deep mentally in the fourth and fifth sets truly separates her from her competition. Her drive and dedication to improvement is an asset to the team.
