At St. George‘s, we see technology as a tool that supports a school community and facilitates learning.

St. George’s is committed to the use of technology as an important tool, both inside and outside of the classroom. Through our technology program, we ensure that every student in our community has access to campus and worldwide electronic resources, enhanced classrooms and a learning management system employed by higher education institutions. These tools encourage students to adopt and employ technology during their tenure at St. George’s School, preparing them for college and professional environments.

Crestron powered classrooms in our new academic center boast interactive whiteboards, projectors, document cameras, DVD players, integrated sound systems and 802.11ac wireless. Our best-in-breed learning management system, Canvas, provides constant access to course materials and is a popular choice for higher education institutions.  Our new Fab Lab, released in 2015, allows students to harness their creativity with 3D printing, a desktop wire bender, vinyl cutter, and several other fabrication machines.

Laptop Program

Our mandatory laptop program ensures that a reliable computer meets the hands of every student. All new students are required to purchase a laptop configured by the St. George’s School Technology Department. Each bundle includes the laptop, all necessary software and peripherals, as well as a personalized backpack. Laptops come with extended four-year warranties and insurance policies that cover fire or theft. The school has reserved funds to subsidize part or all of this amount for those students who receive financial aid. Students are required to maintain their school-issued computer, with the help of our Technology Department, and have it available for class use at all times. Students may choose between a school-issued MacBook Pro Retina or Lenovo X1 and receive on-site support through our Laptop Shop. Our certified technicians are available to resolve hardware and software issues or to simply provide instructional support.

Campus Network

Every building on the St. George’s campus is connected to VoIP and data networks. Every dorm room offers individual network jacks for each resident, along with common room wireless. Academic and community spaces provide wireless connectivity, allowing students to access electronic materials anywhere on campus. School bandwidth has significantly increased over the past few years to better support classroom initiatives, cloud computing, multimedia and improve the overall student experience. In accordance with our Honor Code, students must abide by acceptable use policies and guidelines found in the school handbook, The Shield.

Technology Training

All new students are required to attend technology training when they arrive at St. George’s. This class ensures that all students have a competent understanding of their machine and software. Technology staff explain how to care for and and maintain the computer, how to access cloud storage, connect to wireless printers, use the email system, navigate the learning management system and employ antivirus/malware scans. Upon completing the class, students are ready for academic assignments that involve technology at the school. Additional, free training is always available by appointment through our Academic Technology Specialist.
