We devoted Sunday evening and Monday to celebrating and honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s theme was “Lift as we climb: Celebrating those whose shoulders we stand on.”
A longstanding tradition, our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Chapel Service on Sunday featured an address by Connie Andrade ’04, talks by the co-heads of the Insight Club (Jasmine Kennedy ’23, Zuriel Jimenez ’23, and Kade Walton ’23), and two musical selections: “MLK” by U2, performed by the Advanced Vocal Ensemble with George Ding ’23 as the soloist; and “River” by Leon Bridges, performed by the SG Choir with Maya Daly ’23, soloist, and Owen Gooch ’25, guitarist. Later on Sunday evening, participants in a special coffeehouse created this group poem.
On Monday, the entire school community took part in discussions about historical texts and speeches as well as workshops, several of which focused on influential figures in the civil right movement. View our photo gallery of the events here.
