Girls Varsity Basketball players are SG Holiday Classic Champions after sweeping the two-day tournament Dec. 14 and 15.
"It's exciting to win this tournament, as we've come up short the last five years," said head coach Molly Dullea. "Heading into the break with three wins against two Class B teams and a Class A gives us momentum that will help set the tone when we get back."
The Dragons defeated Suffield Academy, Greenwich Academy, and Portsmouth Abbey School in the tournament with co-captains Jen Driscoll '19 and Leiya Stuart '20 both named tournament co-MVPs.
"The girls worked really hard to win two close games on Friday, and with such a small roster that is not always easy. Our co-captains Jen Driscoll '19 and Leiya Stuart '20 led the charge over the weekend, with Stuart averaging 22 points per game and Driscoll controlling the ball against constant pressure," Dullea said. "We were able to limit our opponents to an average of 37 points because all the players have bought into our defensive mindset. With such a young team (all but Driscoll will be returning), we are excited about where we are right now, and where our growth and development may take us."
The team heads into Winter Break with a 5-2 record.
