Mia Gardner ’20
Having played in goal for her entire hockey career, this Senior Dragon was asked to play forward this season. This is no easy task. Her willingness to take on the challenge for the good of the team paid off during the 2019 Skip and Dolly Howard Hockey Tournament. After 48 minutes of regular time and five minutes of OT, the final game went into a shootout where this goaltender turned skater scored the winning goal, which cemented the Championship for the Dragons.

In last Saturday's victory over league rival Rivers, From his tackle position, Fritz helped lead an offensive line effort that saw the Dragons accumulate 440 total yards (270 on the ground) and 28 points. He was equally effective on defense, where SG shutout Rivers for the first three quarters, with Fritz playing a huge part at defensive end, making 5 tackles, including a QB sack and a blocked punt that led to an SG score. Donovan Frias ’23

Donovan, a third-former was instrumental in the JV Boys first victory of the season. In his first ever game as a Dragon, he was a shutdown defender, repeatedly disrupting Dexter’s offensive opportunities and he consistently initiated SG’s transition into the attack. He played with intensity, sportsmanship, and SG pride, and he even assisted on one of SG's six goals.

Maya Bardorf, Diya Moolani and Juliana DiNapoli

On Saturday, the SG Track team headed to the ISTA Championships to take on the best the league had to offer. Despite the stiff competition, the squad's girls' discus throwers (Diya Moolani, Maya Bardorf, and Juliana DiNapoli) rose to the occasion, garnering three of the top five places in their event. In doing so, they became the first program to achieve this level of success in any girls' throwing event since 2012. Their performances on Saturday serve as a testament to the diligence, effort, and enthusiasm they have brought to the team throughout the season.

Ridgely Kelly

Co-captain Ridgely Kelly took charge of his situation late in Saturday’s match against Belmont Hill when it truly mattered most. While other members of the team had crawled their way back into a match that saw Belmont take early points, he too fought through a close second set to send his match to a third, where he was able to overcome an early deficit to win the 10-point breaker, 10-8, and keep the team's dream alive. Like a true veteran and captain, he put his team in a position to win -- something that was most appreciated by his teammates and coach.

Hallie Noland & Hope Seiler

Hope Seiler and her doubles partner, Hallie Noland won their first set 6-4 but struggled initially on their second. After being down in the second 2-5, they realized that they needed to step up their game and started playing more aggressively and hitting shots with greater purpose. They brought the set to a tiebreaker at 6-6. In the tiebreaker they kept their cool, not succumbing to the pressure and won 7-3. They communicated well with each other throughout the match and proved that you can come back from anything. The two points that they earned helped us to win the match 8-4.

Alex O’Loughlin
At last Saturday’s track meet, Alex was asked to compete in two new and unfamiliar events: the pole vault and long jump. As an added challenge, the events were scheduled concurrently. Despite having to run back and forth between events to complete her attempts, she earned second place in the pole vault and with one jump, a first place mark of 14'5" in the long jump. Her enthusiasm for the sport is infectious, and the coaches look forward to her continued success and leadership on the track and in the field.
