March 31, 2021 • E-news For Parents Only The final stretch With spring finally arriving on the Hilltop, we're eager to see the campus come alive with students again following the break and remote classes this week. Please make sure you've secured your time for Monday drop-off on SignUpGenius and reviewed our updated plans and procedures regarding quarantine. News and correspondence regarding the 2020-2021 school year can always be found on the St. George's website here. And speaking of the final stretch ... The Student Life Office kindly requests your assistance in helping us to determine if we need to utilize our summer storage provider Dorm Room Movers. Families who utilized the service last year will see a drastic difference as the students will pack their own belongings and leave the belongings in their room for Dorm Room Movers to collect. Given the reduced packing for this year, we are unsure how many families may wish to utilize this service. If you do wish to utilize this service, please complete this form. Thank you! A taste of the music yet to come Please enjoy this sneak peak of the winter show, "No Day but Today," which is an original virtual musical mashup about several high school students yearning to find gratitude, confidence, and joy as they navigate the rollercoaster of life. Given the current COVID safety protocols, this year's musical looks very different from past productions. As director of the virtual winter musical Kaitlin Lawrence tells us: "We have created a virtual script that explores many genres of musical theater. To quote a song from the show, we have taken this rehearsal process 'day by day' as we pivot to keep theatre alive in new and exciting ways. We have invited many guest artists to work with our cast via Zoom. In fact, this number was choreographed by Broadway's George Salazar ('Godspell,' 'Be More Chill')." Lawrence also encourages us to "take this remote week 'Day by Day' and finish out the school year with a song in our heart!" Dragon athlete featured on local television Congratulations to varsity boys' basketball player Jake Bender '22, who was named "Hometown Hero" last week by local news outlet WPRI. The segment aired on local news stations, but can be viewed here. The first Geronimo crew of the spring term also recently began its journey from Florida. News from our classrooms As part of our St. George's School Experience (SGSE) Program today, humanities teacher John Roeser helmed a special seminar with sixth-formers on personal finance, addressing such topics as getting a car loan, applying for a credit card, and taking out a student loan. "Making smart financial decisions at a young age can help kids set themselves up for long-term economic stability," Mr. Roeser said. "My goal is to show them the best ways to avoid the overwhelming burden of long-term debt — and to get them to really consider how they're spending, saving, donating, and investing their money." Students translate for Hunter Gallery artist Just before students departed for Spring Break, Spanish 5 students – sixth-formers Peter Alofsin, Blythe Griscom, and Brandon Williams – participated in a Hunter Gallery exhibit unlike any before. The virtual exhibit was with artist Edward-Victor Sanchez, who presented his work in Spanish as the three SG students translated everything he said live.
