Dec. 2, 2020 • E-news For Parents Only Tune in tomorrow for Lessons and Carols! With students home for a week of remote learning before Winter Break, this year's annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols will be a shortened virtual event for the entire St. George's community. Students will watch the service during the school day tomorrow afternoon, and there will be a video premiere on YouTube tomorrow at 7 p.m. for family and friends, which may be viewed here. The service will include readings by members of the SG community and the Right Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely as well as photos from the special 2020 Senior Christmas Chapel Service. The music featured in the service includes performances by the Chapel Choir, the Handbell Choir, the 2000-01 Chapel Choir, and organist Peter Berton. Special thanks to Assistant Director of Music and Special Chapel Programs Wendy Drysdale for coordinating and providing the video footage! Student musicians win honors following statewide auditions Following November auditions, three SG students have been invited to perform in the Rhode Island Music Educators All-State Music Festival and will now participate virtually in ensembles with students from all over the state this spring. Congratulations to Nicole Richards '24, flute, Junior All-State Band (grades 7-9); Ethan Choung '22, violin, Senior All-State Orchestra (grades 10-12); and Tessa Brown '23, soprano, Senior All-State Mixed Chorus (grades 10-12)! An honorable mention went to Sofia David '23, who also auditioned for the All-State Jazz Band on alto saxophone. Only the top two players, this year both seniors, were selected — and Sofia placed fourth, making her the highest ranked of those in her grade who auditioned. Faculty prepare for January return Faculty spent much of yesterday planning for the reopening of campus in January. One of several in-service days throughout the year, Tuesday's session offered time to discuss topics that included the daily and weekly schedule, hybrid and remote learning, athletics, wellness, and afternoon and weekend activities. Teams also reviewed feedback on the fall reopening — and shared proposals for fine-tuning the winter term, which begins with remote classes on Monday, Jan. 11. Other important dates for the winter term are here. Students, teachers take part in diversity conference Karla Acosta '22, Jonathan Cajamarca '23, Alexander Gaines '23, Zuriel Jimenez '23, Tharaly Joseph '22, and Yasmin Serrano '22 are representing St. George's at the 2020 NAIS Virtual Student Diversity Leadership Conference today.
