March 4, 2020 • E-news For Parents Only Original musical wows the crowd A round of applause to the cast (Aristo Wang '20, Madeline Oberting '21, Xiaoyang Hua '20, Belle Garnett '22, Tessa Brown '23, Lana Gaige '20, Ajay Naik '21, and Chyra Williams '20), the crew (Grace Ellison '22, Grace Gerstner '21, Sunjae Lee '20, Yasmin Serrano '22, and Austin Walker '20) and the band (Vincent Chen '22, Alex Wang '22, and Daniel Ziadie '20), who put on a fantastic debut of the student-created play "What Happens Monday" this past weekend! The production, which was performed Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, featured an original script and musical score created by the students and facilitated by Theater Director Sarah Ploskina and Music Director Dr. Kate Longo that tackled themes of stereotypes using comedy and song. Athletic News A winter sports season to celebrate While our varsity squash players were competing at the New Englands this past Saturday, our other winter sports teams played their last games of the regular season against Middlesex here on the Hilltop. A pep rally brought out the community spirit to cheer our teams on to a great weekend, which culminated with decisive wins for girls' varsity basketball, boys' varsity hockey, girls' JV squash and boys' JV basketball teams — as well as a 62-41 win over the Zebras for the boys' varsity basketball team, which helped clinch their share of the ISL championship with Brooks School. Congratulations to the team, which faces off as the No. 3 seed against the No. 6 seed Rivers School tonight at 5:15 p.m. in the NEPSPAC Class B tournament. You can watch the game live here. The team even managed to film a "Sunrise Shoutout" for a local news station before the game. We'll keep you posted on when it airs, but you can get a sneak peek here. Dragons take ISL awards Congratulations also go to our winter athletes who received ISL accolades this season! For boys' ice hockey, Michael DiMascolo '20 was named All-ISL and Shane Mulhern '21 received an honorable mention. For girls' ice hockey, Mary Leys '20 was named All-ISL and Katie Keenan '21 received an honorable mention. For boys' basketball, Tyler Kolek '20 was named the 2020 ISL Player of the Year, he and Sam Adusei '20 were named All-ISL, and Taylor Bowen '23 received an honorable mention. For girls' basketball, Leiya Stuart '20 and Chiron Rose '21 were named All-ISL and Laila Silver '22 and Lena Benway '21 received honorable mentions. For boys' squash, Ismail Atef '20 was named the 2020 ISL Player of the Year and to the All-ISL team. For girls' squash Maya Bardorf '20 and Diya Moolani '20 were named All-ISL. • Professional photographer Louis Walker III was at the rink during Middlesex Weekend. Artist wraps up Hunter Gallery show Artist Cheeny Celebrado-Royer returned to the Hilltop on Thursday for the closing reception of her Hunter Gallery exhibit "Tuldok (Dot)." Art students had the chance to ask questions about her exhibit, which she created specifically for the gallery space, as well as her inspiration for it. News from our classrooms It's assessment week for the Winter Trimester and students are hard at work studying for their final exams before Spring Break. In between tests, students get some extra studying in whenever they can, with the library being a hub in the final days. Athlete of the Week Our Athlete of the Week is girls' varsity hockey player Mary Leys '20. The full citation is available on our website. Reminders • Spring Break Bus Schedule in the Parent Portal. If your child is interested in sailing aboard Geronimo next year, be sure to get your applications in before the deadline on April 5, 2020, for the Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Winter 2021, Spring Break 2021, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021 trips. • A note to our returning families: Keep an eye out for re-enrollment contracts, which will be emailed from the Admission Office on Friday and must be submitted by March 31.
