Jan. 8, 2020 • E-news For Parents Only Back from Winter Break Students returned to campus from Winter Break on Monday evening for the start of the second trimester. As everyone gets back into the groove of classes, athletics, and afternoon activities, a fresh blanket of snow fell last night to welcome them. Hockey crowned tournaments champs Both the boys' and girls' ice hockey teams were crowned champions after each went 3-0 in the 18th Annual Skip & Dolly Howard Invitational Holiday Hockey Tournament before break. Congratulations to MVPs Michael DiMascolo '20 and Katie DeSa '22! Pictured above are Mia Gardner 20 (left) and Mary Leys '20 (right). Mia, who normally plays goalie, has been playing forward this season and scored the tournament-winning goal in a shootout after overtime. In the St. George's School Girls' Basketball Holiday Classic, the girls' team went 2-1, placing third. Meanwhile, the boys' basketball team defeated Pingree School at the St. Andrew's Holiday Classic. • Also of note, readers of the local Newport Daily News newspaper voted the boys' varsity basketball team's 91-68 win over St. Andrew's on Dec. 8 one of the top local sports stories of 2019! The Dragon win snapped the Saints' 87-game in-state winning streak. Faculty in-service day Dean of Teaching and Learning Justin Cerenzia led faculty in group discussions on the St. George's curriculum as part of the faculty in-service day on Monday. Hunter Gallery show highlighted The "Re.struc.ture" exhibit by illustrator Jasjyot Singh that's currently on display in the Hunter Gallery until Jan. 23 was recently featured in local newspaper the Newport Daily News.
