Dec. 18, 2019 • E-news For Parents Only Christmas on the Hilltop As Winter Break approaches and students finish their last schoolwork for 2019, holiday festivities on the Hilltop are in full swing! Last Thursday's Christmas chapel service featured vibrant performances by the Hilltoppers, Snapdragons, and wind, string, and jazz ensembles. A playlist of the recorded performances from the service can be found here. On Sunday, the Chapel Choir performed for the entire community at the annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. Photos from that service are here. In between everything, students had a holiday club game on Monday, spent the week writing anonymous Christmas notes to each other to raise money for Clean Ocean Access, and the boys in East Dorm even put together a special holiday video! The public was treated to all the traditions of the Christmas Festival yesterday, and the festival for the SG community takes place tomorrow. Dragon sailors place third Our fall sailors took third place at the National Keelboat Invitational in St. Petersburg, Florida, last weekend after qualifying for the lone birth to represent New England in the contest. Louis Walker photos from Abbey Monday The girls' varsity ice hockey team defeated Portsmouth Abbey 2-0 at Abbey Monday this week. If you want to get a glimpse of the action, you can view and purchase the photos in a gallery by freelance photographer Louis Walker III here. Holiday tournaments News from our classrooms During their free period, Sunny Hua '20, Lexi Winship '21 and Parker Han '22 (not pictured) are serving as volunteers in the St. George's Archives. They are currently helping with an inventory of early photographs in our graphics collection. "It's important for current students to learn about SG history because this knowledge gives them both an appreciation for the generations who have come before, and a clearer sense of their own unique role in shaping SG's identity," SG archivist Val Simpson said. Chapel Talk Our chapel speaker on Tuesday was Nora Collins '20. Video of the talk may be viewed in the Chapel Talk Portal.
