Following my graduation from an independent boarding school in 2000 I always knew that one day I would return to a boarding school campus, and although it took a few years to find my way back, I am thrilled to call St. George's home. After graduating from Yale in 2004 I enjoyed a five year professional hockey career in the Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders organization. I also coached and worked in Junior, College, and professional hockey for four years after my playing career was complete. I now fill my days as Director of Financial Aid, Associate Director of Admission, Head Boys Varsity Hockey Coach, and Head Varsity Golf Coach. I look forward to welcoming you to Campus and believe you will fall in love with life on the hilltop much like my wife Kathy and me, our two boys Declan and Gordie, and our daughter Frankie.
Justin Cerenzia returned to the Hilltop in 2012, having graduated from St. George’s in 2001. He is Director of the Merck Center for Teaching, Dean of Teaching and Learning, and a history teacher in addition to being an assistant coach of both varsity football and boys’ varsity ice hockey. Cerenzia’s teaching responsibilities have included Asian civilization, American studies, advanced government, and advanced U.S. history. A proponent of the Annales School of historiography, he seeks to promote a wide array of historical thinking skills in the classroom, most crucially that of historical empathy. Cerenzia holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Villanova University and a master’s degree in history from Lehigh University.
Greg Cunningham has been coaching hockey since 1991 and joined the St. George's varsity boys hockey staff in 2007. In 2016, he took over the JV boys hockey team while maintaining his responsibilities as a varsity assistant. He considers it an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to help young men grow as athletes and people as they prepare for life off of the Hilltop and outside of the rink. The Cunninghams are proud to be a part of the St. George's family. His wife Keri is an Associate Admissions Director and Head Swim Coach for the school and they have two children, both of whom are St. George's alums. Away from the rink, Cunningham is a sergeant on the Rhode Island State Police.
