  • Scott Stachelhaus is the current chair of the STEM Department. He has been a member of the St. George’s faculty since 2011. During his time on the Hilltop, he has taught all four levels of chemistry, along with advanced environmental science and an environmental studies elective. In the afternoons, Stachelhaus is a coach on the varsity track and field team (he has also coached varsity football and JV boys’ basketball), and he serves as a dorm parent in the evenings. Before arriving at St. George’s, Stachelhaus conducted scientific research as a marine chemist with his work has been published in several journals, including Marine Chemistry and the Journal of Geophysical Research. Stachelhaus holds a Ph.D. in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree in earth science from Boston University. When he is not chasing his children around campus, he enjoys baking, reading, and playing basketball in his free time.

  • John Roeser teaches advanced economics and English and also coaches JV boys’ basketball and varsity baseball. Prior to his arrival at St. George’s, Roeser worked as a senior policy analyst at American International Group in New York’s financial district and as a private practice attorney for firms in New York and New Jersey. Roeser’s primary areas of legal practice included environmental, intellectual property, and banking law. Before law school, Roeser worked as a teacher at the The Pingry School in New Jersey, teaching Advanced Placement economics and government as well as coaching soccer, basketball, and baseball. Roeser holds bachelor’s degrees, cum laude, from Duke University in English and history and a juris doctor degree and master’s degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia.
