Fall Sailing

Ben Greenfield teaches physics at St. George’s and serves as the head coach of the fall and spring sailing programs. In the classroom, Greenfield where he aims to inspire his students with hands-on experience through experimentation. His teachings stress the importance of approaching the material through its real-world application. Prior to his work at St. George’s, Greenfield completed his student teaching at Boston Latin School and taught at Rocky Hill School. Aside from his teaching, he’s an accomplished competitive sailor at the international level and an avid skier. Greenfield received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in physics from Boston University.

Roy Williams has been a varsity coach at St. George’s for 30 years. He is a member of the STEM department and teaches mathematics. He grew up sailing in North Wales and his first coaching experience was at the age of 18, when he assisted Jim Saltonstall, who established the UK’s RYA Youth Program. That experience resulted in him wanting to develop his skills as a coach and he has remained passionate about coaching ever since. He helped to develop tests for the first US Sailing Level 3 certification and was a member of the first group of Level 3 certified coaches. When he arrived at SG, he inherited an already successful program and, during his time at the school, he coached the team to multiple New England and National titles. He remains active in the sport by competing in one-design racing. A former Vice President of ISSA, the governing body for High School Sailing in the US, he continues to serve on the board.
