Fall Sailing

The St. George's School Sailing program is one of the oldest High School Sailing programs in the country. The team's home waters are in Newport, R.I. and the team operates out in the and the spring.

The fall sailing program sails out of Fort Adams as it practices and competes in Newport Harbor in the school's fleet of 18 FJs and 6 z420s

About the Program

The fall season is a new addition to the SG Sailing Program and is limited to around twenty four sailors, whereas the spring program may have upwards of forty sailors. With four or five coach boats on the water each day, the ratio of coaches to sailors ensures that we can offer a great deal of individualized on-the-water coaching.

The Fall program focuses on honing the skills of both returning and new sailors with an emphasis on boathandling and fleet racing.

Coaches

Ben Greenfield

Program Director- Head Coach

A native Rhode Islander, Coach Greenfield grew up around the water. He first started sailing locally on Narragansett Bay at Saunderstown Yacht Club and then attended Boston University where he sailed for eight seasons and served as a captain for the nationally-ranked coed team. In recent years, Greenfield has been an active member of the 5O5 class as well as various inshore and offshore keelboat classes. He has won the ORC East Coast Championships and NYYC Annual Regatta as the tactician on the Tripp 41 Entropy and placed first in division, and overall, in the PHRF class for the Vineyard Race as the navigator on the R/P45 Miracle. As a team racer, Greenfield has competed at a number of U.S. Racing Championships (Hinman Trophy) and British Team Racing Championships (Wilson Trophy) including two second place finishes at the Wilson Trophy. In 2015, Greenfield and his team earned a silver medal at the ISAF Team Racing World Championships.
