Girls’ Varsity Cross Country Coach Information

  • Head Coach

    Jim Connor is the Prince Chair in History and teaches U.S. history and government. Connor has completed 35 years as a classroom teacher at a variety of secondary schools and continues to enjoy the energy and curiosity of students. His goal is to help students strengthen their reading, writing, and thinking skills and to consider the importance of historical perspective and interpretation in shaping their ideas and opinions. Connor has coached a wide variety of sports and enjoys working with students outside the classroom. He’s currently the faculty advisor to the William S.R. Rogers Endowment for Public Policy Studies at St. George’s. This program offers students an opportunity to travel to Washington and meet with a variety of public officials and SG alums working in the nation’s capital. Connor has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in liberal studies from Dartmouth College.

  • Assistant Coach

    Jeffrey E. Simpson arrived at St. George’s in 1982 and currently teaches American studies and advanced English, serves as faculty advisor to the school’s literary magazine – The Dragon, and coaches both girls’ cross-country and thirds boys’ basketball. Simpson served as English department chair for five years and holds the John L. Welsh ’42 Teaching Chair in English. He received his bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Connecticut College and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in American civilization from Brown University. He was named Teacher-Scholar of Rhode Island by the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1990, which funded a year of independent research.
