The St. George’s varsity baseball squad played its best game of the young season Thursday afternoon, falling just short against a strong Milton Academy team on the latter's home field, 3-4. While the Dragons fell behind early, trailing 0-4 after four innings, they rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh, but left the bases loaded to end that frame and the contest. There were many contributors to St. George's fine efforts on the mound, at the plate, and in the field. Junior Jayden Dummett started the game on the hill for the Dragons and was followed by sophomore Brandon Williams and junior Liam Rhatigan, with the three pitchers keeping St. George's in the game against a potent Mustangs line-up. Offensive contributions were made by Dummett, who went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored; Rhatigan, who drew a walk for an RBI; sophomore catcher Bert Thompson, who went 1-3 with an RBI; senior outfielder Brandon Marte, who went 1-3 with a run scored; and freshman second baseman Harrison Fisher, who worked out a walk and scored the Dragons' first run. St. George's also performed nearly flawlessly in the field, with these efforts spearheaded by outstanding outfield play by Rhatigan, Marte, and senior center fielder Liam Malsy. The Dragons have another quick turnaround, continuing their season Saturday afternoon traveling to ISL rival Lawrence Academy.
