Loss 3-12
For our first away game, we boarded a beautiful Viking coach bus and headed north to Milton Academy. JV watched the first half of the varsity game and then warmed up for ours. Not only was this our first away game, but this was also our first time playing on a turf field. Despite the cold, we had a strong start and evenly matched first half. The offense clicked and made effective cuts and passes. The halftime score was 2-4. As the second half progressed, Milton’s offense intensified and gave our defense a run for its money. Brady was a standout on defense today, tenaciously seeking interceptions and turnovers, while also putting intense pressure on our opponents. Obtaining and maintaining possession of the ball, Lydon played a key role in getting the ball up to our attack so they could score. Attack had 15 shots on goal, but unfortunately only three made it into the net. A highlight of the game came in the final three minutes of our game. Phoebe, who had been on defense for most of the game, was moved to attack. She received a pass and was about to be swarmed by defenders. She kept calm, looked for an open player, saw Maddy C., gave her an accurate leading pass. Maddy caught the ball and immediately took the shot. It was a wonderful example of teamwork. Unfortunately, the scoreboard has not been a true reflection of this team. There is a lot of talent on this team and we have given our opponents a challenge.
