The Dragons hit the road for the first time this season for a Wednesday afternoon matchup at Milton Academy. Despite efforts to come out strong and set the pace, Milton put the Dragons back on their heels after the first draw control and solid offensive possession. The Milton attackers were quick, but our defense was able to adjust. Madi Aumann ‘19 and Olivia Mastrangelo ‘19 held down the defensive unit and maintained pressure on the shifty Milton attackers. The Dragons’ offense struggled to possess the ball early in the first half, so the defensive unit saw a lot of action. Mia Gardner ‘20 held strong and worked with her defenders to save low angle shots. Midway through the first half, Paige Gilbert ‘20 got the Dragons on the board after intercepting a goalie clear and attacking the goal. Riley Cochrane ‘21 and Katie George ‘19 each found the back of the net before finishing the first half down 3-9.

Milton’s defense came out strong again in the second half and denied substantial possession time from the Dragon offense. Liv Tilzey ‘22 did an excellent job handling the pressure and helped set up her teammates for scoring opportunities. Sofia Tonelli ‘19 and Alafair Cutler ‘20 connected late in the second half to each tally their first points this season. It wasn’t enough, however, and the Dragons fell to Milton 6-18 after being outworked on the draw, in ground balls, and in transition. Tilzey earned the ‘Player of the Game’ for her ability to adjust to Milton’s pressure defense and for her consistent play during the fast-paced game. The Dragons will be back in action on Saturday at home vs. Lawrence.
