Loss 1-6
The JV Dragons greatly improved from Monday's opening game in their home opener against ISL rival Milton Academy, losing 1-6 on Cliff Field on a beautiful, but chilly early spring afternoon. SG started off strong, playing outstanding defense (led by goalie Josh Kwon, close defense Oscar King, Chase Mockridge, and William Kim) keeping the Mustangs at bay and doing a good job of clearing the ball to the offense. The first quarter ended with no score, but with the Dragons getting a few good opportunities. In the second quarter, Milton won the ground ball battle and won all its faceoffs, accumulating six goals in a flurry of offense that momentarily stunned the hosts. Down 0-6 at intermission, SG could've packed it in, but didn't and upped its play, winning the second half 1-0 on a late third quarter goal by Charlie Parsons. Playing well today for the Dragons were Henry Dane, Chris Lawrence, King, Kim, Mockridge, Parsons, Kwon, and Sargent Johnson. With the loss, SG drops to 0-2 on the season with its next contest on the road at Lawrence Academy (4:15 p.m. start) on Saturday.
