The Dragons of boys’ squash traveled to perennial squash powerhouse Belmont Hill for the first ISL match of the season. From #2 through #7, the Sextants had the edge, but the Dragons showed good resolve in their matches. Sam Klyver, at #7, used his natural athleticism to good effect against a more experienced player. JC LaCerda-Jones, at #5, played competitively throughout his match against a player who hit with both power and accuracy. Linus Maurer, at #4, got ahead in a few points and maintained a smart strategy that got the ball in the backcourt with lobs, but he was ultimately overmatched. At #2, co-captain Hayden Bertsch, although playing an opponent with a deft touch, worked hard to retrieve and stay in the points, but was not able to finish them. At #1, Ismail Atef earned the Dragons only win of the day. In a match against a solid opponent, he used running boasts to move his opponent forward and then began to attack the response. The strategy worked well and, after a close first game, he moved through the second and third with greater surety, winning 3-0. Up next for the Dragons, Brooks School on Saturday.
