Braintree, MA 02184
In its first game following the holiday break, the St. George's junior varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to Braintree, Massachusetts, to take on league rival Thayer Academy. The Dragons showed some rust at the outset of the contest, falling behind 16-3 to start the game. St. George's overcame this sluggish start, however, to draw within single digits by halftime and to ultimately claw back and tie the Tigers at 37 late in the second half. The hosts executed well down the stretch, though, and were able to pull away with a 47-41 victory. St. George's was led offensively by sophomore guard Robby Thompson, who poured in a career-high 18 points. Also contributing were junior guard Liam Rhatigan, who scored 8 points in a reserve role, and freshman forward Bilal Khan, who chipped in 5 points off the bench. The Dragons once again played an active, effective 2-3 zone, scoring many points in transition off forced turnovers. St. George's continues its season Saturday afternoon, hosting ISL foe Lawrence Academy.
