Middletown, RI 02842
In a battle of previously unbeaten teams, St. George’s dropped a hard-fought 27-25 decision to ISL foe St. Mark’s in Middletown on Saturday afternoon. With both teams still shaking off the rust from a long winter break, the game was a defensive struggle from wire to wire, with the Lions sinking a final jump shot to break a 25-25 tie with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. Declan Rhatigan led the Dragons with a game-high 11 points despite being double- and triple-teamed for most of the afternoon, and sophomore guard Owen Snyder (9 points, 2 steals) chipped in with three long three-pointers. Nayan Sapers (4 steals), Trent Lamar (2 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals), and Henry DiRico (3 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals) used some fancy dribbling to help beat the St. Mark’s full court press and big men David Lee, Oscar King and Garrett Gray combined for 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Tyler Boone and William Kim contributed on defense and Nikhil Sharma and Pablo Troop played well off the bench. With the loss, the Dragons are now 4-1 on the season. They play again on Wednesday at home against Thayer Academy.
