Loss 3-5
The St. George's varsity baseball team played one of its stronger games of the season Saturday afternoon, closing its year with a narrow 3-5 loss to archrival Middlesex School during Prize Weekend on the Hilltop. While the Dragons fell behind 0-4 through 4 1/2 innings, they rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth and rallied again in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the tying run to the plate before Middlesex extinguished the threat. Spearheaded by senior center fielder Liam Malsy, St. George's played excellent defense throughout the contest, making only one error. The Dragons also benefited from capable pitching, with junior Carter Dummett starting the game before giving way to junior Jayden Dummett, who pitched an effective five innings in relief. Offensive contributions were made by sophomore catcher Bert Thompson, who went 1-2 with a run scored; Jayden Dummett, who doubled in three at-bats with an RBI and run scored; junior shortstop Zac Borden, who reached base three times with a walk, a single, and a double and also drove in a run; senior first baseman Roberto Martinez, who singled; and senior right fielder Brandon Marte, who captured the RBI Cup with two singles and a run batted in. St. George's would like to thank the players and coaches for their efforts throughout a challenging season spent almost entirely on the road.
