The St. George's varsity baseball team played one of its better games of the season Wednesday afternoon in Braintree, Massachusetts, challenging and remaining close to one of the stronger ISL teams in Thayer Academy for the better part of the contest before ultimately falling, 0-5. The star of the game for the Dragons was senior pitcher Roberto Martinez, who pitched five impressive innings, striking out four, and yielding only two earned runs. Martinez also doubled down the leftfield line, giving St. George's its only extra-base hit of the day. Martinez was succeeded on the mound by junior Carter Dummett, who finished the game on the hill for the Dragons. Offensive contributors included sophomore catcher Bert Thompson, junior second baseman Jayden Dummett, junior shortstop Zac Borden, and senior center fielder Liam Malsy, each of whom singled in three plate appearances. It should also be noted that St. George's helped itself remain competitive throughout the game by playing error-free ball. The Dragons conclude their season by taking on arch-rival Middlesex School Saturday afternoon at Elliott Field, senior day for Martinez, Liam Malsy, and right fielder Brandon Marte.
