“Methods, Elements, and Associations”
Works by Simon Jiarui Li ’20
The selection of works does not collectively celebrate a theme nor a specific subject but rather a diverse grouping of ideas, thoughts, and actions. However, the element of the grid and the collective is evident throughout all of the works. I am amazed by the essence of grids, as they declare hostility to nature by ordering, geometrizing, and crowding out a new dimension of a plane.
As each work deals with its subject, the message is often delivered indirectly. This indirectness comes from the natural conflict and harmony between the reality of elements and materials present in the works.
