College-Prep Academics

The Humanities Department

Since ancient times, Humanities programs have instilled the qualities needed to engage in creative, critical, and rational thought; questioning and reason lead students toward integrating the human experience into both their coursework and everyday lives. St. George’s continues this venerable tradition today.

Language and culture education

French, Latin, Spanish, and Chinese language instruction are offered in addition to global immersive study and exchange programs in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. St. George’s international reciprocity brings global awareness emphasizing humanity’s interconnectedness and the unique character of diverse cultures and locales.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics

A robust STEM education is the cornerstone of preparation for learning, living, and working in the 21st century. Aligned with the fundamental role of STEM disciplines in higher education and in the larger world, St. George’s faculty members have carefully crafted a curriculum to foster problem-solving and innovation. STEM education is more than book-work: it drives hands-on experiences and independent study in preparation for college and future work.

Visual and Performing Arts

Our visual and performing arts programs help instill the value of creative thinking and expression in all of our students. A core foundations course leads the way to possible advanced study in drawing, painting, sculpture, theater, or instrumental or vocal study and performance.

Connected Learning

Our “School at Sea'' program brings students aboard our 70-foot cutter Geronimo for a sailing and learning experience unlike any other. Leaving behind the classroom, students, many of whom have no prior sailing experience, become crew members and work alongside professional sailors. Participating in the upkeep and operation of the vessel, standing watch, hoisting sails, and taking the helm, students are immersed in the unique surroundings of the natural world. Since 1974, student sailors have tagged nearly 3,000 sea turtles.

Technology

St. George’s boasts state-of-the-art academic facilities equipped with smart classrooms and secure campuswide connectivity to G Suite for Education, Canvas LMS, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Community members are equipped with business-class laptops, ensuring comprehensive tech support and standardization of software and hardware, keeping all users on the same page. Within their first six weeks on campus, incoming students receive extensive orientation to the technological capabilities the campus has to offer. By embracing and leveraging the latest advances in technology, students and faculty can access new opportunities and robust solutions for academic research, collaboration, curiosity, and creativity.

Athletics

Squash, sailing, basketball, and lacrosse are among the 15 sports programs offered. The Athletics department enjoys top-of-the-line facilities such as an eight-lane swimming pool, an indoor track, two ice rinks, a squash center, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and more. No matter their sport of choice, students are encouraged to display teamwork and sportsmanship. We encourage sports for both competitive and recreational players.
