Laptop Program
Appropriate Use Policy
At St. George's we believe that technology is a tool that can not only help administer a school community but can help facilitate learning. Therefore we have a required tablet program which ensures that a reliable computer is in the hands of every student. In addition, every building on St. George's campus is connected to the School's telephone and data networks, and every dorm room has individual data and telephone jacks for each resident of the room.

Wireless technology has expanded our network to add flexibility and to enhance accessibility. Wireless access points can be found in many locations on campus such as: Art Center Classrooms, Science Building, Computer Labs, School House, Library Building, Sacristy Classrooms, Main Common Room, Brown Center, Campus Center, the Quad, Wheeler Garden, and North Fields. Students are now able to use their laptops almost everywhere on campus - in classrooms, common areas, hallways, and even outside.

This connectivity allows students to access the Internet and all campus resources:

FirstClass
E-mail and calendar server

BlackBoard
Courseware management server

Dragon
Intranet server

Academic
File server that provides each student network storage space. This server is backed up nightly.

Library
The library catalog is on-line. Students can access it from anywhere on campus.

Other Computing Services
There are a number of common areas that are outfitted with technology for student use. There are several print stations around campus with a computer and printer, all dorm common rooms have a printer and we have computer labs that are set up with discipline specific software for activities such as video production, photo manipulation or MIDI.

Telephone Services
Students are responsible for providing their own touch-tone (analog) telephone for their dorm room.  Please keep in mind that the use of cordless phones in such a close living environment compromises personal privacy.  Each boarding student has a telephone/data jack in their dormitory room.  St. George’s provides all students with their own telephone number, voice mailbox, and free on-campus and unlimited local phone service if they choose to bring a telephone for their dormitory room.  Day students may also bring a telephone and have it set-up in their day room area.  Having a phone in your dorm room or day room area allows you to use our Enhanced 911 System in the event of an emergency.  Each dormitory has a corridor wall phone on each floor that students may use as well.  The School sells long distance calling cards in the bookstore for all long distance phone calls.
