“Behind the Hills”

Presented by the St. George's Theater Department

The 2015 spring play at St. George’s took our theater program to new heights with the production of “Behind the Hills,” an original play written by sixth-formers Catherine Farmer and Laurie Germain — who were recently interviewed by National Public Radio.

“Behind the Hills” compiles the real-life stories of several Rwandans who were witness to the genocide in 1994 and who last summer were interviewed by the girls, both of whom have lived in the country for several years. It is a highly personal show the girls hope will inform the community about the history of the genocide — and the healing taking place in Rwanda today, more than 20 years after the conflict between the Hutus and the Tutsis left more than 800,000 dead.

Beyond the playwrights, who also acted in the show, the star cast included Jack-Henry Day ’15, Sydney Jarrett ’16, Charleen Martins Lopes ’15 Billy Reed ’15, Sarah Rezendes ’15, Anna Rittenhouse ’17 and Lexi Sinskey ’18.

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the accomplishments of these exceptional students and Chair of the Theater Department Sarah Ploskina, as the show — and the story behind it — is sure to reach a wider audience in the months ahead.
