Distinguished alumna returns to the Hilltop
Caroline Guenther '06 was back on campus last night for a talk organized by the Women in Leadership Club. Caroline (pictured above with fellow Dragons Marisa Rodriguez-McGill '06, Ali Fornell '08 and Mike Robey '06) was named to Forbes magazine's elite "30 Under 30" earlier this year for her pioneering work as a business planning manager at Cisco Systems Inc. She spoke to students about her education and career path from St. George's to Silicon Valley and her many travels throughout the world. The first SG student to participate in a School Year Abroad program, Caroline spent her fifth-form year in China. (Note: Also in the audience last night were Caroline's awesome parents, Deirdre and Bill Guenther '68!)
Special events planned for Alumni Weekend
Alumni: Have you registered for Alumni Weekend? We've got an outstanding weekend planned for you, filled with opportunities to reconnect with friends and make new memories on the Hilltop. Also of special note this Alumni Weekend is a keynote address by Head of School Eric Peterson on Friday night. Join us early in the weekend as we gather as a community in recognition of the Petersons' 13 years of devotion to St. George's. All parents and friends are invited to join us for the address too. Alumni: Check off that you're coming to the event when you register. All others should R.S.V.P. to email@example.com.
Fifth-form basketball standout is one to watch
Twenty-four of the best high school basketball players in Rhode Island faced off Wednesday night in the Higher Education Sports Spring Classic at Portsmouth High School — and St. George's fifth-former Angelo Stuart was right in the mix. Angelo, who averaged 30 points per game for the Dragons this year, led the ISL and NEPSAC Class B in scoring and earned All-League Honors. "He has been a great addition to the SG community," said coach Dwayne Pina. "On the court he had a spectacular individual season. I know he will continue to work and grow personally, academically and as a basketball player — and I look forward to having him lead our program again next season." Check out Angelo's highlight video on Hudl.com.
Christy Mihos '05 (above center with a friend and his sister, Ashley Mihos Kennedy '01, right) will be running in the 2017 Boston Marathon. Christy calls the April 17 race "a lifelong goal." He'll be running to raise money for the Alpha Omega Council. Are you or another Dragon you know running Boston? Let us know so we can cheer you on from the Hilltop!
Innovative dentist in the news
Dr. Guiseppe Cicero '08 continues to make news for his trailblazing work in dentistry and oral care. Already well known for his research on dental pulp stem cells, soft and hard tissue grafting, and oral melanoma, Guiseppe also recently founded Oral3D, a provider of unique 3-D printing packages for dentists to help them prepare for oral surgery. Read more about Guiseppe on huffingtonpost.com and on iItaly.org.
Congratulations to our last trivia contest winner, Alec Goodrich '14, who knew that students always look forward to a Head's Holiday! ... This week's trivia question: During Alumni Weekend in May we'll be presenting St. George's highest alumni honor to a distinguished alumna. What is that award called? The first person to respond with the correct answer wins a coupon for $10 off a purchase from the SG Bookstore. Good luck!
