Director of Alumni Relations Bill Douglas was out on the road this week catching up with recent graduates. On Tuesday evening Bill had dinner with our Dragons at Tulane University — Will Corridan ’16 , Agnes Enochs ’15, Hallie Moore ’16 and Patrick Ford ’16 (right) — “at a great spot called Willa Jean in NOLA,” Bill reported. “Monday evening I visited with Tulane law students SJ Tilden ’09, Chris Swanson ’08, and attorney John Werner ’84, P’19, thanks to Chris’ dad Jim Swanson.” Bill is always looking to add to his college tour schedule. Send him a note if you'd like to get a group of alumni together near you for some Hilltop reminiscing. We're also taking suggestions for a good tour name for Bill's expeditions. Could we borrow Aerosmith’s 2000 “Roar of the Dragon Tour”?
Speaking of Dragon gatherings … Multiple generations of Dragons gathered for our traditional “Dragons with Dragons” photo during Family Weekend — and what a showing of St. George’s pride it was! This year 33 of our parents are alumni and have a total of 36 students studying on the Hilltop. If you have a family member or know someone considering taking a look at St. George’s, the SG Admission Office is a great resource. Call them at 401-842-6600 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also be able to attend one of our regional admission receptions near you.
Other news from our alumni in college:
Two former Dragon tennis teammates bumped into each other in Tennessee this past weekend while playing in the regional ITAs, a tournament for all D-3 schools in the area. Harry Shepherd ’16, a freshman at Emory University in Atlanta and last year’s ISL champion, met up with former teammate Scottie Abeel ’16, who now plays tennis for Sewanee (right).
Family Weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 1 brought more than 600 family members and guests to the Hilltop. Photos from the Friday Night dinner event, featuring student performances, are now up on our Flicker.com page. Videos are on our YouTube Channel, and Head of School Eric Peterson’s address to the community is on Vimeo.
A teacher and two students from the YK Pao School in China (right), arrived at St. George’s Wednesday for a 10-day exchange. YK Pao, a Chinese-English bilingual school in Shanghai, has been a sister school of St. George’s since 2010, when former Director of Global Studies and Chair of the Chinese Department Tony Jaccaci left SG to become head of the upper school at YK Pao. Tony, his wife, Lucia, and their sons have since moved back stateside. Tony is now the head at Cincinnati Country Day.
Congratulations to Tim Everitt P’17, who was quick to respond to last week’s trivia question about the names of our a cappella groups, the Snapdragons and the Hilltoppers. Of course, he had a bit of an advantage: His daughter Ramsay Everitt ’17 (right) is one of our talented Snapdragons.
This week’s trivia question: These days, when given the chance to choose the hymn the community will sing preceding their chapel talks, six-formers by far and away choose “Jerusalem.” What are the next five words that follow this lyric: “And did those feet, in ancient times ...” The first person to answer with the correct answer wins a $10 coupon toward a purchase from the SG Bookstore. Good luck!
