Greetings from the Hilltop!

This year’s Global Studies class heads to Vietnam in March 2017. Students will study globalization and the rapid development of Vietnam’s urban areas. The yearlong course for seniors focuses on the global forces that connect our world. Sixth-formers selected for the class spend a portion of the year conducting research before traveling abroad to continue their investigations firsthand. Global Studies teacher Jake Westermann visited Vietnam in June to prepare for this year's course. Along with David Lo '16, he toured Ho Chi Minh City's Seventh District, also known as Saigon South, David's hometown. They are pictured to the right with David's mother Iris Ting.

This week a group of SG boys and girls soccer players participated in the All Out Soccer Camp at Camp Lenox, a residential summer camp in the Berkshires. The camp helps prepare prep school teams for the fall season and allows for competitive matches with other teams. Speaking of girls soccer, mark your calendars for Friday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m., when our varsity girls challenge Marianapolis Prep in a Friday Night Lights game. Go Dragons!

In July Will Simpson ’14 connected with Christoph Erlen ’97 (right) on a visit to Kassel, Germany. Will spent four weeks in Berlin studying its history as part of a program operated by the Council on International Educational Exchange. Will continues his German language study at Middlebury in the fall.

A reminder about the opportunity for alums to place ads for the live stream broadcasts of our home varsity football games this fall. All ads will be read by our professional announcer during stoppages of play, between quarters or to introduce starting lineups, key stats, players, etc. Contact the Alumni Office for more details and to arrange your purchase: alumni@stgeorges.edu or 888-422-5574.

Congratulations to Mike DiOrio ’03 for being the first to respond with the correct answer to our trivia challenge last week. Mike recalled that the Dragons varsity football team defeated Pingree School to win the Kevin Fleming Bowl last fall.

This week’s challenge: Do you know the significance of the date May 19, 1917 in SG’s history? The first to respond wins a coupon code for $10 off a purchase from the SG bookstore.
