Two Class of 2005 grads are set to run in the Chicago Marathon Oct. 9. Christy Mihos and Lindsay Damrow will be representing Ronald McDonald House Charities at the race, and are currently training and fundraising for the event. Where are they now? Christy is an executive recruiter at Howard Fischer and Associates in Boston and lives in Charlestown. His donation page is here. Lindsay is a consultant at Morningstar in Chicago. The St. George’s football team is getting some excellent publicity this week as reporters throughout the region publish their fall preview articles for the upcoming season. The Newport Daily News featured this story on the front of its sports section on Tuesday. The Boston Herald called four Dragons “Players to Watch” in yesterday's paper: Sixth-formers Dave LaMountain, Isaac McCray, Henry Savage and Nick Swift. The Boston Globe features its preview today. A reminder: This afternoon's varsity football game against island rival Portsmouth Abbey will be broadcast at www.localsportsproductions.com/livestream/ beginning at 4:40 p.m. We hope you can listen in. And many thanks, once again, to one of our generous parents for making these home-game broadcasts possible. Go Dragons!
Looks like we have lots of fans of St. George’s hockey. We posted this picture (right) of the SG Grounds crew readying the rink for the season on our Facebook page — and the buzz was on. Former players: It’s now time to think about dusting off those skates for the Alumni Hockey Game, which is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 25. Send us a quick note at firstname.lastname@example.org to express interest or ask questions. All are welcome!
Dragons in college:
The Georgetown sailing team — with two Dragons in its ranks — is off to a strong start. Standout Will Logue ’16 joined the team this year and was a member of the team that placed first in the B division at the Riley Cup Regatta Sept. 10-11. Roger Dorr ’14 is now a junior with the Hoyas, who are looking to defend their national championship this year. Follow the two on the Hoyas' sailing webpage.
The all-school photo was taken behind the chapel last Friday. As is the long-standing tradition, a handful of sixth-formers ran from one side of the bleachers to the other in order to appear in the panoramic picture twice. Two of them have parents who are also Dragons: Christine Dejoux ’17 (left in photo), daughter of Ed Dejoux ’86, and Isabel Meyer ’17 (far right), daughter of Ward Meyer ’78.
Thanks to generous donations from the Friends of the St. George's Chapel, two more newly restored chapel doors returned to the Hilltop this morning. These include the North Slype Door (framed outside by the limestone corbels of Babe Ruth and Red Grange) and the Architect's Door near the organ console. The Altar Door, which leads to and from the Little Chapel, will be restored next. To add your support for our ongoing chapel preservation efforts, click here.
Congratulations to last week’s trivia contest winner Tarleton Watkins ’11, who knew that King Hall was built in 1907, the same year as Arden dormitory. This week’s trivia question: Admission Director Ryan Mulhern ’91 is one of St. George’s most notable hockey alums and a member of the St. George’s Sports Hall of Fame. Which NHL team did Ryan play for in 1997-98? The first to respond with the correct answer wins a coupon code for $10 off a purchase from the St. George's bookstore. Good luck!
