Nathan Humphrey is a member of the religious studies department and assists from time to time in St. George’s chapel services. Humphrey teaches biblical studies. In addition to his teaching duties, Humphrey is the full-time rector of The Zabriskie Memorial Church of Saint John the Evangelist on the Point in Newport, from which he founded in 2014 The Choir School of Newport County, an after-school program for boys and girls ages 4-18. Humphrey holds a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and a master’s degree from Yale University Divinity School and a Certificate in Anglican Studies from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, the Episcopal seminary affiliated with Yale. He has also spent time as an independent researcher at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Prior to coming to Rhode Island, Humphrey served as chaplain and religion teacher at Washington Episcopal School in Bethesda, Maryland, middle school academy catechist at Saint James Academy in Monkton, Maryland, and as a parish priest for eight years in Washington, D.C.
