Scott Stachelhaus has been a member of the school’s science department since 2011. During his time on the Hilltop, he has taught all four levels of chemistry, along with advanced environmental science and an environmental studies elective. Stachelhaus is also a coach on the varsity football and track and field teams, and he serves as a dorm parent in the evenings. In his classes, Stachelhaus places an emphasis on the problem-solving aspects of science and the practical applications of scientific concepts. In doing so, he draws from his prior experience as a marine chemist. Stachelhaus’ own scientific research has been published in several journals, including Marine Chemistry and the Journal of Geophysical Research. Stachelhaus holds a Ph.D. in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree in earth science from Boston University.
