Jeffrey E. Simpson arrived at St. George’s in 1982. He received his bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Connecticut College and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in American Civilization from Brown University. He was named Teacher-Scholar of Rhode Island by the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1990, which funded a year of independent research. Simpson served as English department chair for five years and holds the John L. Welsh ’42 Teaching Chair in English. He currently teaches American studies and advanced English, serves as faculty advisor to the school’s literary magazine, The Dragon, and coaches girls’ cross-country and thirds boys’ basketball.
